We understand medical insurance can be frustrating and time consuming to figure out. However, if is your responsibility to understand how your plan works. There are 100s of plans out there, and it is not possible, nor is it our job, to understand each specific plan.
The specifics that are the most beneficial for you to know are:
1. What does my plan cover (Office visits/sick visits, preventative care, etc.)
2. What is my deductible? Do all bills go to my deductible until it is met or only certain visit types?
3. What is my co-pay for acute office visits versus preventative care.

Medical Billing
Our billing is now done through ATHENA HEALTH as of November 1, 2024. If you get a bill from us and it looks like it wasn't run through your insurance, please let us know and we will look into it.
If it was sent through your insurance but you have a question on your portion of the bill, please check with your insurance first and feel free to email us if additional questions.
The gist on how medical billing works.
We submit a MEDICAL CODE based on the complexity of the medical care you received. This translates into a fee. It is then submitted to your insurance. Most insurance do not pay this full amount, but adjust it based on contracts etc. The remainder of then may go to you as a bill. If you have a deductible you have to meet before your insurance covers your office visits, then you will be responsible for the bill.
Insurance and Billing is not what any of us signed up for in becoming a physician. Obviously, our current health care system has a lot of areas that need improvement. However, it is the current system we have, and in order for us to continue to provide primary care, it is your responsibility to understand your insurance and bills.
